Paradise Lost is an epic poem in blank verse by the 17th-century English poet John Milton. The poem concerns the Christian story of the Fall of Man: the temptation of Adam and Eve by the fallen angel Satan and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden. John Milton (9 December 1608 – 8 November 1674) was an English poet, polemicist, and civil servant for the Commonwealth of England. [1]
In the process of doing my task, I read the text on the book first and looked up the new words. Then read it once again and got the general idea of the text. after that read two Chinese reference books in which introduced john Milton and the paradise lost more specific and the translating of the poem really did me a good well to understand the poem ,I got to know more detailed information john Milton’s life, experience and his works. In addition to read books, I also searched the internet and got much information on line. Paradise Lost is scheduled to be made into an action film in 2012, directed by Alex Prays and slated for relea

Satan is the first major character introduced in the test. Formerly the most beautiful of all angels in Heaven, he's a tragic figure best described by the now-famous quote "Better to reign in Hell, than to serve in Heaven". He is introduced to Hell after he leads a failed rebellion to wrestle control of Heaven from God. Satan's desire to rebel against his creator stems from his unwillingness to be subjugated by God and his Son, falsely claiming that angels are "self-begot, self-raised", thereby denying God's authority over them as their creator. Satan is comparable in many ways to the tragic heroes of classic Greek literature but, Satan's hubris far surpasses those of previous tragedies. Though at times he plays the narrative role of an anti-hero, he is still commonly understood to be the antagonist of the epic. However, the true nature of his role in the poem has been the subject of much notoriety and scholarly debate.
The image of Satan in Paradise Lost is extremely complex and subtle.  He seems to be almost heroic in the earlier portion of the poem, grand and majestic in appearance, fearless in character. He begins the poem as a just-fallen angel of enormous stature that shines like a comet. This sequence of different shapes assumed by Satan is not only the deterioration in his outward image but also reflect the state of his soul.
The image of Satan in Paradise Lost is extremely complex and subtle. In the textbook, it begins with the recovering of Satan, only when he recovered from faint did he realized that he and his followers were condemned in utter darkness and in endless pains’ appreciate the description of the impressiveness sceneries very much. “No light, but rather darkness visible. Served only to discover sights of woe." this picture impressed me because
It will make anyone in it feel desperate, and the agony will be deepening in such environment. but when facing with the god`s cruel punishment, although it so heavy a burden for him to bear, he got through it, he was not scared to quivered. Instead, he made his mind to oppose god. He soon recovering from defeat and he called on all his followers t
o regain their courage. He told them to do good reparation to the future fight. He said, “in arms not worse, in foresight much advanced, we may with more successful hope resolve .to wage by force or guild eternal war."  Also, he said,"to bow and sue for grace, with suppliant knee, and deify hiss power."  Bow to the god is considered by Satan as "ignominy" and "shame" .after that, he said "fall’s cherub, to be weak is miserable", these words made the soldiers to summon up their courage to face their future battle. By analyzing these sentences, He seems to be almost heroic in this portion of the poem, grand and majestic in appearance, fearless in character. He begins the poem as a just-fallen angel of enormous stature that shines like
