英语中“彩”词汇的引伸含义及其翻译

  在日常生活中，彩是最富有表现力的语言，不仅能表现某种品格、传达某种情绪，而且已成为最敏捷、最通俗的交流工具。人们借用彩来抒发自己的情感，丰富自己的语言。 
    中西方在运用彩表示意义方面也存在着明显差异。中国的吉庆为红，西方的婚礼为白，圣诞为红、绿、白；中国的明黄为天子的象征，西方的皇家与主教的衣着为紫。在英语中，表示彩的词汇可以用来表示人的情绪和性格，还可以用于象征、借代和比喻。例如：He was born in the purple（他出身于高贵家族）这里purple（紫）的意思是华丽、富贵；She　is so jolly green（她实在幼稚得可笑）这里green（绿）表示幼稚；I  have  had the blues all day（我一整天都心绪不佳）blue（蓝）比喻情绪低落。下面，我们将讨论一下英语中彩词汇的引伸含义及其翻译问题。 

    一、表示人的情绪和性格。 

  Blue：蓝，表示忧郁，情绪低落。例如： 

    Mary has felt blue ever since her boyfriend left for Europe./ 自从她男朋友到欧洲去以后，玛莉一直感到闷闷不乐。　 

    But the blue did occasionally bother all the adults./ 但是大人们也免不了会偶尔感到心情不佳。 

    Black：黑 

    (1)表示恶毒、凶狠、邪恶的。例如： 

  　I am not so black as you  painted me./ 我并不像你描写的那么可怕。

    Green：绿 

  　(1) 表示嫉妒。例如： 

    Alice’s girlfriends were green with envy when they saw her new dress./ 艾丽丝的女朋友们看到艾丽丝的新衣服时，非常嫉妒。 

    (2)表示幼稚。例如： 

    You are still as green as grass, Jon./ 乔恩，你还很幼稚。

    Red：红，表示愤怒。例如：

    二、彩词汇所表示的其它含义　   

    Blue： 

    (1) out of the blue：突然，出乎意料的。例如： 

    The old coins were lost for years， then they turned up one day, quite out of the blue./ 丢失了多年的古币终于到了，真是出乎意料。   

    (2) once in a blue moon：难以得到的。例如：         

    You get a chance like this only once in a blue moon./ 这种机会真是千载难逢。　 

    (3) blue in the face：无济于事。例如： 

    You can shout till you are blue in the face, I’m not going to change my mind. 

  你再大喊大叫也无济于事，我是不会改变我的主张的。 

    (4) till all is blue：没完没了地。例如：
