When I Grow Up, I Want to Be a Musician
Ever since I was a little kid, I've loved music. I can't remember a time when I didn't sing silly songs or bang on pots and pans like they were drums. My parents say I came out of the womb making noise! Music just makes me feel so happy and free inside. That's why when I grow up, I want to be a musician.
Being a musician seems like the best job in the whole world to me. You get to play instruments and sing all day long! How awesome is that? My friends want to be doctors, firefighters, athletes, and scientists when they grow up. Those jobs are okay, I guess. But they have to deal with sick people, fires, sweating a lot, and complicated math. No thank you! Give me a guitar or some drums any day.
I've tried out lots of different instruments to see which ones I like best. So far, my top three favorites are the guitar, piano, and drums. The guitar is portable and looks really cool when you play it. The piano has such a wide range of low and high notes that sound beautiful. And drums are just fun to bang away on - they let me get out all my energy! I'm going to keep testing out new instruments though because there are so many incredible ones to pick from.
In music class at school, we've learned about different styles of music from around the world. I love them all - classical, rock, country, pop, rap, you name it. Each genre has its own unique sound and vibe. If I become a professional musician, I don't think I'll want to stick to just one type of music. I'd like to be able to perform anything and everything. Maybe I could learn tons of instruments and styles and be a one-man band! How cool would that be?
Some kids joke that musicians are just lazy and get to goof off all day. But I know the truth - being a successful musician takes a ton of hard work and practice. You have to train
your voice and fingers for hours every single day. You have to memorize tons of notes, chords, rhythms, and lyrics. It's like exercise for your musical muscles! The great musicians make it look easy, but that's only because they've worked really hard to get that good. I'm going to start practicing long hours now so I can be a pro when I grow up.
One of the things I'm most excited about when it comes to being a musician is getting to perform in front of big audiences. Just imagining thousands of fans cheering and singing along with me gives me goosebumps! I've gotten a taste of that thrill when I've done little performances for my family or at school events. But I can only dream of how amazing it must feel to be the main event at a huge concert or festival. Someday I'm going to make that dream a reality!
Of course, to become a famous musician, you have to write your own songs too. I've already started working on that by filling up notebooks with my lyrics and melody ideas. It's crazy - a song can literally start from just one small phrase or tune that pops into your head. Then you build it up from there into a whole story and production number. I get such
a rush whenever I finish writing a brand new song. It's like giving birth to a tiny musical baby! I have tons of ideas for potential songs, ranging from fictional tales of adventure to true stories about my own life experiences.
Being a musician isn't all just playing and singing though. If I want to make it my career, there's also a lot of business stuff I'll need to take care of. Musicians have to book their own shows and tours. They have to promote their music through social media, interviews, photo shoots, and fan meetings. A lot of them even run their own music labels too. It seems like a lot to juggle on top of the actual music parts. But I'm sure it will all be worth it to live out my dream!
My parents have given me a lot of great advice about pursuing my musical ambitions. They remind me that it's an extremely competitive field, so I have to keep working harder than everyone else. They also say I shouldn't just focus on being a performer - I should learn about the production and business sides too. That way I'll be a well-rounded, employable musician. My parents have always supported my passion though. As long as I pour my heart into it and never give up, they believe I can make it.
Sometimes when I'm being hard on myself during practice, I get a little scared thinking about all the obstacles I'll face trying to "make it" as a musician. What if I'm not actually that talented? What if I freeze up during big performances? What if my songs aren't any good? Those doubts can really get me down. But then I remember how much pure joy music brings me, and that fear melts away. As long as I'm playing and singing from the heart, nothing else matters.
I know there's a chance that things won't work out and I may have to get a different job when I'm older. But I'm going to give my absolute everything to try and achieve my musician dreams first! Who knows, maybe I'll get discovered and become a huge international star. Or maybe I'll just play local gigs while teaching music lessons on the side. Either way, as long as I'm immersed in the world of music, I'll be happy.
