AboutTerryFox:TerryFox(1958-1981)isaCanadianathleteandcancerresearchactivist.Also,heisainspirationalhero.Whenhewas18yearsold,hewasdiagnosedashavingbonecancerandforcedtohavehisrightlegcutoff.In1980,FoxstartedtheMarathonofHopeandbegantorunusinganartificiallegtoraisemoneyforcancerresearch.Thespreadofhiscancereventuallyforcedhimtoendhisquestafter143daysandultimatelycosthimhislife.Heranmorethan5,300kilometers,halfwayacrossCanada.NowtheMarathonofHopetakesplaceeveryyearandhasnowgrowntoinvolvemillionsofparticipantsinover60countries.In2008,TerryFoxwasnamedaNationalHistoricPersonofCanadabytheCanadiangovernmentforhissignificantroleinthehistoryofthecountry.
